In the next few weeks, the blog will be featuring men in gym shorts, the male nudes of Helmut Rottgen, 1950s men's pulp magazines, some recent finds by Earle Forbes, a whole lot of Irish for a certain holiday, and finally Physique Week beginning on March 30. Stay tuned.

Nudist All Male Beauty Pageants
In their heyday, nudist resorts were always staging pageants and games competitions, and today we will look at the men's divisions of some of the former. We begin with a group in front of a rundown cabin that looks like it was made out of shipping pallet boards. If you think it looks rickety here, you should see some photos apparently made later when it was literally falling down.
Sun Valley
This lineup was competing at the Sun Valley Gardens Nature Park.
I would give the win to the guy at far left whose number is illegible.
And if I win . . .
"And if I win the title of Mr. Barebottom Bungalows, I promise
to work hard for world peace and to help the children."
Audience
This is a rare nudist pageant photo in which the audience is shown, albeit from the back.
Apparently the contestants had to step forward and flex in turn.
Corn field
The nudist camp where our final pageant was held must have raided some farmer's corn field to deck out the stage. This is a clearer version of a photo I posted a five years ago, btw.

Hairy Playgirl Models Day
It's Hairy Playgirl Model Day, and we start with a foldout poster
of David White, Playgirl's Man for October in 1976.
Robert
Playgirl did a photo essay in April 1982 called Executive Men,
and a smirking Robert Trahan appeared in it.
Doubtful
I have strong doubts about this photo that was in my Playgirl file labeled 70s.
It looks like it's from a Target photo spread, but searches came up blank.

Unknown
This painting is by an unknown artist and resides in the Royal College of Art,
the curators of which believe it to be late 19th Century.
Koloman Moser
It was 1914 when Koloman Moser did this drawing. A lot of Moser's male nudes depict
men frantically running somewhere, but this guy looks like he's read to wrestle.
Hugo Lederer
I've posted bronze sculptures by Hugo Lederer before, and they always have fine male forms. This one is called The Runners, and it graced a park entrance in Berlin from 1929 until 1943 when the friggin Nazis melted it down to make weapons. Although he was not persecuted by the Nazis, his friendship with "degenerate" artists kept him from getting commissions after 1933. The Runners was actually a type the Nazis generally liked, but they destroyed it anyway.
Patrick Hennessy
This is In the Hammam by Irish artist Patrick Hennessy from 1965.
I find it quite advanced for its time.
Twin drawings
The drawing above is Stephen Gjertson from 1974. The one below is by James Childs, and it looks like a very close copy. It turns out that the two knew each other for decades and collaborated from time to time. These look like academic works, so maybe they were in class together.
1970s
This was sold online as "1970s, Unknown Artist" even though there is a signature that at least starts out as L.G Co . . . Seems like someone at the auction could have figured that out, but I tried several searches and came up with nothing. I find it to be quite good.
