Leslie Lohman Museum

Today I am featuring ten works of art from the Leslie-Lohman Museum dating between 1974 and 1984.  We start with perhaps the most interesting piece in the series, Marion Pinto's 1974 painting of the museum's founders and benefactors, Charles Leslie and Fritz Lohman.

Sandra DeSando

Sandra DeSando drew this beautiful portrait of James Saslow in 1980.

Robert Gable

I can't imagine why Robert Gable didn't give this lovely oil painting from 1978 a title.

William Bjorkman

My Dutch Lover was done by William Bjorkman in 1980.

Michael Kelly

This untitled drawing by Michael Kelly is from 1978.

Gregory Hull

Contrapposto was painted by Gregory Hull in 1984.

Leo Hansberry

Here we have an untitled work from 1978 by Leo Hansberry.

Richard Rosenfeld

This untitled drawing is by Richard Rosenfeld from 1980.

John Lear

The Builders was painted by John Lear in 1978.

Gilbert Lewis

Our final Leslie-Lohman work is Resting by Gilbert Lewis from 1982.

Name That Photographer Day

This summary is not available. Please click here to view the post.

Bob Edna

I have about half a dozen photos of Bob Edna, none with photographer attribution.

Bob Kappel

Bob Kappel, who reminds me of Von Gloeden's model Il Serpente, was known to have posed
for AMG, Bruce of LA, Falcon, and Pat Milo. This doesn't really look like any of those
men's work, imho, so it might be by someone entirely different.

Hillgardner Brothers

Brothers Frank and Bill Hillgardner were known to have separately posed for Lon of New York and Lou Melan, aka Louis Melancon, but I'm not sure who took this duo shot.  I am sure that I like it a lot.

Gary Brandenburg

Gary Brandenburg is one of several models in today's set with Ed "Kookie" Byrnes hair.

Gary or Edward?

This summary is not available. Please click here to view the post.

Joe Dimassa

I've admired this photo of Joe Dimassa a long time, and only recently found his name.
I still don't know who the photographer was, however.

Joe Hill

This summary is not available. Please click here to view the post.

Joe Leitel

Joe Leitel at various times posed for AMG, Apollo, Bruce of LA, Pat Milo, and R.A. Enterprises,
but I don't know which, if any, of them took this impressive photo.  If I had to guess,
I would go with Pat Milo, but that's just a hunch.  Anyone know for sure?

Lucky Moore

Lucky Moore looks like he posed in a quarry for an unknown (to me) photographer.

Tore Lind

Tore Lind posed for Champion and at least one Swedish photographer of male nudes.
This doesn't look Champion's style, so it must be the other guy whose name eludes me.

Yves Grangeat

When I saw that our final unattributed photo was Frenchman Yves Grangeat, I immediately thought of Jean Ferraro.  He does not, however, show up in any of the online Ferrero archives.

Hairy Wrestlers Day, Part 1 - Andre Drapp

I'm a few weeks late for our quarterly hairy wrestlers series, and this time it's a two parter.
Before moving on to some assorted performers, we start with five shots of French
bodybuilder turned wrestler Andre Drapp.  A single photo of him a few weeks
ago got such a response that I decided to give him his own miniseries.
The picture above is by Arax Studio of Paris.

Man of Steel

Here we see Mr. Drapp in a Superman pose.

Action

This is one of the better in the ring action shots of Andre Drapp that I was able to find.

Seated

Seated photos of professional wrestlers are not common,
but Mr. Drapp looks great that way.

Grainy

The last picture of our Andre Drapp series is a bit grainy,
but both his build and body hair shine through.

Hairy Wrestlers Day, Part 2 - Assorted

Part two of hairy wrestlers day kicks off with the
tag team of Paul Jones and Nelson Royal.

Maniac Matt Borne

Matt Osborne, aka Maniac Matt Borne, was a headline wrestler from beginning in 1978.

Don Curtis

We see Don Curtis solo above and with his tag team partner Mark Lewin below.

The Polish Hammer

Ivan Putski, aka The Polish Hammer, made the cover
of Wrestling Training Illustrated in April of 1977.

Bill Melby

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.  I never get tired of looking at Bill Melby.

Big John Studd

This fierce looking guy is Big John Studd.  I'm sure that with the proper care
and training he would make a fine pet.  Can I take him home, please?

Billy Wicks

Our final hairy wrestler of the day is Billy Wicks.
