David Hockney Day

It's been over a year since I did a David Hockney series, so here's the second one.
Above is a photo I find absolutely charming and below is a self portrain from near the same time.

1963

We start the art show with the earlies David Hockney work I could find,
"Standing Nude with Cigarette" from 1963.  It looks unfinished to me,
but this is probably the way it was intended all along.

Nap Time

This one is called "The Room, Tarzana."

Illlustration

David Hockney did this 1966 drawing as an illustration
for "Fourteen Poems" by C.P. Cavafy.

1975

Mr. Hockney took an occasional turn at photography.  In this example
from 1975 we can see him and his camera in the bathroom mirror.

Richard, Jim, and Felix

These three are Richard Neville, Jim Anderson, and Felix Dennis
in a 1971 offset lithograph by David Hockney.

1965

I recall reading somewhere that David Hockney was so impressed by the sheer number of swimming pools he saw on his first visit to LA that he went into a series of pool themed paintings.  This one is from 1965, probably one of the earliest, but I'm not sure.

David and Mo

Here we have David and Mo from 1966.

Gregory and Mark

It was October of 1975 when this picture of Gregory and Mark was done.

Opera Harlequin

David Hockney did this promotional poste for the Metropolitan Opera in 1981.
The male figure is a harlequin, but my favorite element is the ladder.

Cartoon in need of a caption

This last drawing by David Hockney makes me think it's a cartoon in need of a caption.
I can't think of one, though, so see what y'all can come up with in the comments.

19th Century Day

It's 19th Century Day, and we start with Alfred le Petit in a self portrait from the early 1860s.

1890 Boxer

When I first posted this six years ago, I was hoping someone had some information
on the photographer and/or model.  No luck. All I have is "Boxer, 1890."

Japanese Tattoo

This tattooed Japanese man was photographed in 1875.

Hermann Heid

Rarity

I have no info on this photo, but it is a rarity in that we can see the hair on the model's back.
I only wish that I could find more photos of this man.

Marconi

I've never been able to figure out if this Marconi model is supposed to be dead or sleeping.

Beefy Igout

This beefy model was photographed by Igout.

Turban

I suspect that this is an Italian posed as a turbaned Oriental.

Heinrich Kuehn

This is "Man with Ball" by Heinrich Kuehn.
It sold for U$35,000 in 2019.

Early six-pack

Our last 19th C. model has an early six pack
and one of those devices to hold his head steady.

Lesser Known Physique Photographers - The Occasional Series II

Today we have another installment of my occasional series on lesser known photographers.
We start the show with Larry Madden by Bobco, the studio of Bob Carr.

Frank Borck

Frank Borck of Canada worked mostly under the marque of Can-Art.
This 1965 photo of Gary Dinnie is a good example of his work.

Rod Crowther

John Graham

I recently managed to find a few "new" male nudes by British photographer John Graham.  Most of them were of Clive Norman, shown above.  I'll post more in a future series.  I have to confess that Mr. Graham is probably better known in collectors' circles than most of the other photographers in this series.  It's the rarity of his full nudes that sets him apart.

Baron Horder

This picture of Festus Francis by Baron Horder probably doesn't qualify as a physique photo, but I'm including it anyway because it is well done and interesting.  Baron Mervyn Horder (1910-1997) was the second Lord Holder, and he was best known as an eccentric book publisher.  He was openly gay even when it was illegal in England.  He did, however, manage to get arrested for sending obscene material through the mail.  Those are the pictures I'm looking for, unsuccessfully so far.

Al McDuffie

Rip Searby

We get a straight-at-us stare from Peter Mitchell in this picture by Rip Searby.

Maurice Seymour

Maurice Seymour was actually two brothers, Maurice and Seymour Zeldman.
They were Russian immigrants who set up a photography business in Chicago
in the late 1920s.  Best known for their celebrity photos of actors, musicians,
and dancers, this picture of an unknown bodybuilder stands
out in their collections shown online.

Jack Sidney

Kip Behar still lived in New York and went by "Sol" when Jack Sidney took this photo.
I think Kip was still in high school, and would you look at those muscles!

Spartan

Eric Pederson is probably the most prolific Spartan model
in terms of photos to be seen online.

Joe Weber

I borrowed this one from James over at Men From Back Then .
It's a beautiful Joe Weber photo of Bill Grant and some shag carpet.
Thanks, James!

Avery Willard

Our final photo of the day is Ralph Bernard by Avery Willard.
