Kris Studio Day

It's Kris Studio day, and we start with Tom Muscolino.

Bob Kolinski

Even with his crotch covered, Bob Kolinski looks mighty fine.

Steve Reno

Although they may not be the first thing most viewers notice,
Steve Reno's tan lines cannot be overlooked.

Johnny Seaton

The right side of Johnny Seaton is bleached out,
but the picture still shows off his physique.

David Selhime

I like the over the shoulder look that David Selhime gives us here.

Bill Ferguson

Bill Ferguson appeared on the cover of Kris' The Rawhide Male.

Gordon Pitts and Jim Porter

These two are Gordon Pitts and Jim Porter,
and I don't know which is which.

Tom Cowans

Tom Cowans is one of my favorite Kris models.

George O'Mara

George O'Mara appears more frequently in the Kris
portfolio than just about any other model.

Steve Kotis

Chuck Renslow photographed Steve Kotis in front
of a crowded cabinet full of crystal glassware.

1980s Men, Front and Back

Today I'm posting ten men from the 1980s showing them from both the front and the back.
We start with the always impressive Colt model Rod Kasznar.

Brian Hawke

Someone conveniently made a composite of Brian Hawke, so I only had to post one picture.

Cole Falkner

This sultry looking fellow is Cole Falkner.

Ivan Duncan

This summary is not available. Please click here to view the post.

Jeff York

These photos of Jeff York are from the Advocate Men series.

Mickey Squires

Mickey Squires must have come across as the cowboy type to photographers and editors.
My sources say the photo above is from In Touch, while the one below is from Honcho.

Nick Case, aka Steve Shulte

Here we see Nick Case, aka Steve Shulte, model and porn star who went
on to be mayor of West Hollywood and a successful real estate professional.

Rod Mitchell

Rod Mitchell and his tan lines appear with a farm implement above.
Below, we see him from behind. I forget who the other guy was,
but he seems to like what he's seeing.

Steve Cole

The lower photo in this pair is from the December 1985 issue of Honcho,
where Steve Cole appeared in a photo spread called Hunk on a Log.

Will Seagers, aka Matt Harper

Closing the Front and Back series with Will Seagers, aka Matt Harper.

Gustav Klimt

Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) was an Austrian artist who was admitted to Vienna's Kunstgewerbeschule academy at the remarkably young age of 14.  He is best known for The Kiss (shown above at left) and other groundbreaking works he did from about 1890 onward.  For our purposes, however,
we will be looking at his early academic nudes and a study of a satyr.

Seated nude

This seated male nude with a staff from 1880 is an exceptional depiction of the male form, imho.

Peekaboo

The male form is the most striking part of this drawing, but the pronounced
upper spine and peekaboo view between his legs are also noteworthy.

Interesting pose

This is one of the more interesting poses we are likely to see in an academic drawing.
I hope our resident life model David will give us his professional take on it.

1880

It was 1880 when Klimt drew this statuesque model from the rear.

Boxes

Those boxes were versatile props used by nearly all the 19th C. academies.
The model here has a little pillow for his knee.

Study for Satyr

This is a study for the satyr component of Klimt's 1886-87 wall painting, The Altar of Dionysos.
It is located above one of the main staircases at the Burgtheater in Vienna, and it is one
of those occasions where the study is better than the finished work, shown below.

Muscles

The well drawn muscles show the model's upper body
to be more developed than the lower.

Bearded Man

This beautiful Klimt portrait drawins is known only as "Bearded Man."

Youthful model

The youthful model in this drawing appears to be sitting on some odd sort of cushion.

Red Background

The model in our second academic painting is holding a staff that Klimt
only partially painted in, and the red background is rather striking.

Done at age 17

Our last Klimt drawing is dated 1879, which would have been when the artist was age 17.
I'm not surprised at the quality, given that he had been in the most prestigious
art academy in Vienna for three years by that point.
