Billiards Day

It's billards day, and we start with a photo made at the Gold Coast in Chicago.

They're tying some guy to the pool table for what I am sure were nefarious purposes,

and it was just a typical night at that Chuck Renslow enterprise.

Our last naked pool player seems to be having a bad hair year.

It took him at least that long to grow that mop.

 

1930s Day

It's 1930s Day, and we start the show with a 1936 self portrait by Paul Outerbridge.

Mr. Outerbridge (1896-1958) was a very successful American photographer

who took dozens of female nudes, but only this selfie of a male.

 

Unknown Derriere I

Online vintage photo resellers often group images together, and this came 

from a group of pictures of all derrieres with the only designation being "1930s."

 

Hood ornament

This is another of those 1930s photographs that could have inspired a hood ornament.

 

Mystery Man

Try as I might, I haven't been able to find any more photos 

of this mystery man, never mind who he might be.

I found this in a group of unattibuted 1930s photos with no additional information.

 

Elio Luxardo

This is a 1930s piece by Italian art photographer Elio Luxardo.

 

Lutz 1930

This may be Mark Lutz, a photographer in his own right 

who posed for and inspired Carl van Vechten.

Clevio Massimo and his muscles appeared on the cover of Strength and Health in September, 1935.

 

"Nature"

My source labeled our last 1930s photo 

as "Nature" without mentioning the sword.

Anyone who has followed this blog for very long knows what a big fan I am of the work of Dave Martin.  Bryan B sent me enough "new" material for several series, so I'm starting today with named models.  (The unknowns will show up in a month or so.)  First up is Ralph Blumenthal.

Dave Martin didn't take all that many derriere shots,

so I was happy to get this one of Dave Sanchez.

 

John Silva

I was extremely pleased to find this shot of John Silva that I had not previously seen in Bryan's donation.  I would love to have those Mid-Century Modern drapes in my bedroom.
