Douglas of Detroit Day

We are overdue for another Douglas of Detroit (aka Doug Juleff) series.
We begin with Stan Stanczyk in a seated photo.

Bob Delmonteque

Double exposures were a significant element of Doug Juleff's portfolio,
and this one of Bob Delmonteque is one of the best.

Bob DeWeese

Doug Juleff photographed the always impressive Bob DeWeese in the Lake Michigan dunes.

Joe Marcy

Joe Marcy is one of the top three or four Douglas of Detroit models in terms of known photos.

Larry Steiner

I get a David Bowie vibe from this picture of Larry Steiner.

Ward Heath

Is this an imaginary archery photo?  The model is Ward Heath.

Vic Seipke

I recently came across this reclining shot of Vic Seipke and his pompadour.

Jim Park

Mr. America of 1952 Jim Park gives us a nice smile in this shot.

Mike Dubel

One of my favorite Doug Juleff models is Mike Dubel,
who looks a bit more mature than usual here.

Tom Talbot

Completing the Douglas of Detroit set with a youthful Tom Talbot.

Military Men Again

It's military day, and we start with an industrial looking mobile shower unit.

French

I'm pretty sure that this is an intewar French induction center.

WWI

This is a U.S. Army Signal Corps photo from a World War I training facility.

Scots

The Suez Canal in 1916 was the location for a Scottish regiment to have a swim.
I've enlarged and sharpened the best part of the photo below.

Aussies

A group of Royal Australian Air Force personnel decided to their shiny bottoms
along with their shiny Mirage III fighter jets.  The year was 1978.

Barracks Hijinks

I'd love to know how the guy second from left got his drawers ripped.

Large Group

I do not know the nationality of this handsome group of men,
but they look like they are having fun.

GIs in New Guinea

Here we have some GIs in New Guinea having a combined
session of swimming, washing up, and doing laundry.

Algeria

This is a 1958 recruiting station in Bouira, Algeria during last years of French rule.

Shower flash

Our closing photo shows some men in a shower
with what looks like a flash bulb going off.

Paul Richer's Special Model

Today I am posting twelve photos by Paul Richer which show the same handsome model in a variety of positions.  My source says that the pictures were used as studies for a sculpture that was likely used as an anatomical instructional aid.  I've posted a couple of these before, but I think it is worth posting the entirety of my collection.  If anyone has any others, please let me know.  We start with an image which drew a lot of positive comments when previously posted.

Truncated I

This is the first of two photos where the model's head and legs were cropped out.
While that might indicate they were meant for an anatomical text,
the conventional wisdom is that all these photos were studies.

Wrist action

This is the first of two photos in today's series where
the model's wrists are in a somewhat odd position.

Profile with foot forward

Paul Richer posed our model in profile with one foot forward with good effect.

Sword

I think he's taking a swipe with a sword.

Punching

He looks like he's punching the air with his fist in this one.

Crossed wrists

I really like this photo with the model's wrists crossed.
Maybe it's because he's looking into the camera.

Standing side view

The enlargement grid is visible on this side view.

Lean look

Our model looks leaner from this angle than he does in his other photos.

Truncated II

Here is another photo where the head and legs of the model are missing.

Fuzzy

The quality of this one is not great, but the plate number
is smack in the middle of today's model's sequence.

Side twist

Finishing the series with a side view that includes a twist.
