Dave Martin photos sent by Cambria

I was recently gifted by viewer and commentator Cambria with a fine set of digital versions 

of photos by the great Dave Martin, none of which were already in my collection.  Not only 

did he provide the pictures, but they also came with some great information.  We start the 

first of at least two series from this source with a 1965 shot of charming Lance Kendrick, 

a football, rugby, and baseball player from Menlo College in Atherton, California.

Tom Roan I

In the first of two appearances today, we see Tom Roan from 1972.  Cambria and I are both of the opinion that he probably permed his hair.  Tom played football for Penn State.

 

Bob Thomas

Cambria helpfully provided Dave Martin's verso inscription describing Bob Thomas, shown above in 1968.  For those of you who use digital translators, I will transcribe it below its image.

Kevin Hall posed with a sword for Dave Martin in 1971.

 

Glen Wolf

The earliest photo in today's series is Glen Wolf from 1956.  According to Cambria's 

excellent notes, he was a self-described poor student at San Jose State University 

who expected to drop out by the end of the school term.

 

Craig Bondy

It was 1969 when Dave Martin photographed Craig Bondy, a multi-sport athlete 

from Stanford in football, tennis, and swimming.  For whatever reason, 

he was photographed with a sword rather than sports gear.

 

Paul Ramirez

This photo of Paul Ramirez is from 1974, the last year Dave Martin worked as a male nude photographer.  Although he is shown with a basketball, no college affiliation for Paul was given.

Here we get another look at Penn State football 

player Tom Roan and his permed hair.  

 

Terry Marcellus . . . Near the End

I'm ending the series with college football player Terry Marcellus, one of the last five

 known Dave Martin models.  According to Cambria and several other well informed 

observers, Dave Martin decided to close shop after he became discouraged by the 

avalanche of cheaply produced gay porn that followed liberalization in the late 1960s. 

 I've read the same about Danny Fitzgerald of Les Demi Dieux.

Dianora Niccolini

Diadora Niccolini was born in Italy in 1936, but eventually moved to the USA.  

She caused quite a stir in 1975 when she did the first known major gallery show 

comprised entirely of male nudes.  Today we will take a look at ten of her works.

 

Trunk

We get a nice view of the model's trunk, plus a something more.

 

Back

Somehow, this simple images exudes masculinity.

 

Dancer

This is my favorite from today's series.

 

Drop

If you look closely, I think you'll see a drop of water 

(or is it sweat?) on Ms. Niccolini's model's nose.

 

Cropped

The cropping here reminds me a bit of George Platt Lynes,

but he never had a model quite like this.

 

Adrian

This one is called simply Adrian.

 I couldn't find a title anywhere for this exceptional Dianora Niccolini photo.

Ronaldo

This interesting work is called Ronaldo's Skeleton.

I'd love to know how Ms. Niccolini found this guy.

 

Hoops

Ms. Niccolini called this one "Hoops," causing me to think it might have been part of a bigger series.

 

Solarization

Dianora Niccolini did a number of male nudes using the solarization technique

which produced tone reversal by extreme overexposure of the film.

 

FKK Men and Boats Day

Just about anything you can think of doing, FKK folk do naked.  Today we will look at some FKK men in and around boats.  We start with a handsome fellow from 1973.

 

1958

The boat here is a very small sailboat, and the year was 1958.

 

1970

It was 1970 when this FKK man pushed his shallow draft boat through some water lilies.

 

1960s

Our single color shot of the day shows a man and his outboard in the 1960s.

 

1972

These two from 1972 appear to be snorkeling.

 

1912

In modern German "Sonnenkraft" translates as "solar power,"

but in 1912 when this was made it meant "sun strength."

1961

We get a double derriere shot of boaters on a rocky beach.

 

1950s

This grainy photo from a 1950s FKK magazine shows a man climbing 

up the side of a German lake cruise full of naked people.
