Navy Day, Part 1 - Shirtless Sailors

It's Navy Day on the blog and we start Part One with some Australian
sailors loading tomatoes onto their ship during World War II.

1930s Wrestlers

This is a U.S. Navy wrestling team from the 1930s.

Shipboard laundry

Here we have some good looking sailors operating a primitive shipboard laundry.

Firefighters

I think these guys are gathered around a firefighting apparatus.

Australian Trim

Our second Australian photo of the set shows a beard trim in progress.

Navy Day, Part 2 - Affectionate Sailors

The sailors get affectionate in Part Two.  We start with a pboto
where the affection is subdued, but at least they're touching.

Group

Some of these guys are friendlier than others.

Cozy Duo

This pair of sailors look quite comfy together.

Arrow

Somebody drew an arrow pointing at one member of this happy group.

Trio

Our last photo of the set has guy in uniform who knows a good thing when he has it.

Tamotsu Yato Day

Tamotsu Yato was a brilliant Japanese photographer who managed to produce some very homoerotic work in a culture where showing penises is generally not allowed.  (We will see two exceptions later in the set, so stay with me.)  We start with an image where we get just a hint of package.

Nobou Takemoto I

Tamotsu Yato took promotional photos of Japanese bodybuilders early in his career, both in the studio and in competition settings.  I'll post some of the latter in a future series, but today I will focus that part of the series on four photos he made of Nobou Takemoto, who was Mr. Japan 1970.  We start with a great derriere shot that shows Mr. Takemoto's stocky build.

Mystery

The hairy legs immediately grab our attention
and leave us wishing for a better view of his crotch.

Festival

Mr. Yato didn't just do studio work and bodybuilder promos.  He also photographed
Japanese cultural and religious festivals were nude and semi-nude men were numerous.

Nobou Takemoto II

Full frontal nudes are rare (and illegal) in modern Japanese photography, but Tamotsu Yato
took two of Nobou Takemoto.  As far as I know, they were not published in Japan.

Unconventional

This unconventional pose is one of my favorites in today's series.

Yukio Mishima

Tamotsu Yato took several photos of the hypermasculine Yukio Mishima, a Japanes nationalist
who committed suicide when his attempt to revive Japanes militarism failed.

1972

This striking 1972 photo was shot just a year before Tamotsu Yato's death.

Nobou Takemoto III

Our third photo of Nobou Takemoto is cropped in a way
that really accentuates the upper body.

Light

Tamotsu Yato pushed the light to the limit here, but he did it well.

Sturdy

I love the sturdy build of the model here.

Random Beef Day

Mr. Scumbeast sent me this and called it "random naked guy."
And no, that's not how I came up with the name for this theme.

Shy?

I don't know if the model was shy or if the photographer was trying to make an artist statement.

Underexposed

The photo is underexposed.  The man is not.

Tree guy

Ain't nature grand?
The model looks like he's done with it.

Love seat

A striped sheet, a love seat, and a naked man was all that was needed.

Carpet

Is this guy standing in front of a carpeted wall?

Busy

This is a busy little scene, and those mirrors on the fireplace surround might make one dizzy.

That expression

I don't know what to make of this guy's facial expression.
Etsy Nederland says this is a 1950s bodybuilder, but it looks more recent.

Mess

Our last random beef item is a strange photo in which we can only see the guy's package.
I can't decide if it's a Polaroid gone bad or just a mess.
