Cartier the Boxer

Although I have posted other photos of boxer Walter Cartier by Stanley Kubrick, I did not have this one that Albert published on his blog.  The year was 1948, and Kubrick worked for Look Magazine.

If you look closely at this crowded shower, you'll see a couple of guys getting frisky.

 

Marty Stewart

Google Images search says this is Marty Stewart, a model who appeared

 in a photo spread in a late 60's magazine called The Edwardians.  

The photographer was Neill Edwards.

 

Nature's shower

These guys are getting a natural shower, but the water might be on the cold side.

 

Gafsa

Leave it to Albert to post a photo of American troops showering

 inside the Roman baths at Gafsa in North Africa during World War II.

 

AMG II

Our second visit to the notorious AMG shower features two men, one of whom is trying his best 

to look goofy and has a very hairy bottom.  Trust me, our friend Albert goes into orbit faster 

than an Ariane rocket when he sees a fine man with a hairy derriere.

Outdoor primitive

Our last shower photo from Albert is a type I've had on several occasions, particularly after hauling hay on the ranch as a teen or after working in my yard as an adult.  There's nothing like getting hosed off by a buddy after a hot sweaty day's work.  These two look mighty fine doing it.

Today is self portrait day, and this one from 1948 by Aleksandr Daineka is about as close to nudity as we will get.  You will, however, see a variety of what I think to be interesting and attractive men.

Antonio de la Gandara completed this in 1888 at age 27.

This 1867 self portrait by Barthelemy Menn (1815-1893) is in a Geneva art museum.

Soviet artist Dmitry Zhilinski completed this self portrait as a 19-year-old student in 1946

Czech artist Frantisek Kupka completed this in 1910.

This self portrait of Jules Bastien Lepage (1848-1884) is undated.

 

Kishida Ryûsei

 This is Kishida Ryûsei (1891-1929) done in 1918.

 

Samuel Lanyi

This self portrait by Samuel Lanyi (1792-1860) is dated 1840

and is part of the collection at the Budapest Museum of Fine Arts.

 

Valentin Alexandrovich Serov

Our last self-portrait is the very impressive Valentin Alexandrovich Serov 

(1865-1911) who did this while still in his teens.

Since I extended my self-imposed definition to 1985, I have somehow managed not to do a full-on 1980s porn star theme.  So today I will remedy that with 12 men from 1980-85.

We start the show with the charming and quintessentially 80s Nick Chase.
