James T. Gleeson

It's been a few years since I did a series on the work of James T. Gleeson (1915-2008), a talented Australian artist known for paiting male nudes in surrealistic scenes he called Psychoscapes.  We start with the first of at least five Pyschoscape works in today's set.

Playful

This one has a playful feel to it.

Psychoscape II

Most of James Gleason's Psychoscape painting have a single human figure, but this one has two.

Minotaur and Man

Minotaur and Man is from 1953 and has a very different feel from Gleeson's later work.

Psychoscape III

This Psychoscape series entry was called Pensive Man.

Surreal Landscape

Mr. Gleeson called this one Surreal Landscape.

Psychoscape IV

This Psychoscape item has unusual positioning for the subject.

Perseus

This is Perseus from 1981.

Untitled

Not even an Australian gallery researcher could find a title for this one.

One more from the 'scape

Closing out the James Gleeson series with another Psychoscape series item.
I really like the color and the tribal looking objects.

Middle Aged Nudists Day

It's middle aged nudist day, and we start with a man contemplating jumping in a pool.

Peekaboo

Peekaboo.

Australian Bear

Here we have an Australian bear wearing shades in the shade.

Grinning

I don't know why he's staring at the ground and grinning.

Plumbing

The plumbing here may have already been vintage when the photo was made.

Air Mattress

Those handy air mattresses could double as beach floats.

Pleasant

I had to include this one because he seems so relaxed and happy.

Shuffleboard

Seems like a lot of 1960s nudist facilities had shuffleboard as an activity.
This gentleman looks like he's having fun.

Repeat

This is a repeat post from five years ago when I asked if that device around his neck
was a piece of photographic equipment.  Nobody back then knew.  Maybe now?

Lanky Dude

Finishing off the middle aged nudist series is a lanky dude
stanking on the side of the same pool as an earlier guy.

Random Beef Again

Time for another round of uncategorized men.  (Yes, I'm feeling too lazy to put together a theme today.)  We start with a fellow in cowboy boots in front of some garish curtains.
Miss Magnolia Thunderpussy would not be amused.

Kneeling in the dunes

This guy kneeling in the dunes makes me thing of a group of photos Mr. Scumbeast gave me
which he called "Waiting for Mr. Right."  It is not, however, one of those.

Twofer One

This is the first of two dual view sets in today's series.  I found them on a German website labeled "unbekannt" or unknown, but I have a feeling they are by a recognized photographer.

Backside

I thought this might be a polaroid, but the more I look at it, the less I think so.

Triptych?

I can't tell if this was designed as a triptych or cut and pasted as such by someone down the line later.  In either case, it harkens to Koch and Reith's Der Akt, only with modern architectural elements.

1941

I found this one among a group of color photos for which only a year, 1941, was provided.
Most of the men look like dancers, fwiw, and the color is all very saturated.

Enigmatic

The shadow across the model's chest and shoulder make this one enigmatic.

Twofer Two

Our second dual view set features a man against a bland curtain.

Barn Door

Here we get a starkly lighted subject at a barn door.

Fetish website

I found this last fellow on a facial hair fetish website.
