Brick Shit House Males Through Time

Today we look at some men through time who were built like bruck shit houses.
We start with a Roman mosaic of an athlete.

Neptune I

The Italian Renaissance sculptors made their men somewhat more burly than their Green and Roman antecedents.  This 1576 work by Ammanniti is the first of two statues of Neptune in today's set.

Neptune II

This is the Fountain of Neptune in Bologna by Giambologna, 1565.

Jacques Reattu

It was 1792 when Jacques Reattu did this drawing.

E. Favier

E. Favier drew this well built mid-19th Century model.

Muybridge

I had to include my favorite Muybridge blacksmith in the brick shit house series.

1890s

This is supposed to be from the 1890s, but it looks a bit later to me.

Hercules

I posted a washed out copy of this Hercules themed photo over five years ago, but this one is much clearer and labeled as from the Desbonnet period of French physical culture photography.

Arms folded

I don't know why this undated photo has the model posed with his arms folded.

Estonian #448

This is a composite I made from the interwar Estonian body typing studies.
By my best reckoning, this guy stood about  5'3".
Nice things do come in small packages.

Bronko Nagurski

This is pro football star turned wrestler Bronko Nagurski from around 1940.

Unbekannt

I found this one on a German language website labeled "unbekannt" or unknown.
I don't think the picture is necessarily German, though.

Colt?

This might be by Colt.

Cowboy Bob Lang

Our final brick shit house man is Cowboy Bob Lang by George Dureau from 1979.

G-Rated Military Men

Today we look at some mostly World War II G-rated military men.  We begin
with Ye Olde Iwo Jima Spa, a surprisingly elaborate rest and recreation facility
that included massage tables and piped in sulphur water therapeutic baths.

Marines

My source only said that these men were Marines.

Shower lineup

These GIs seem to be lined up at a heavily camouflaged portable shower unit.

Behind the wheel

I can't quite make out what sort of vehicle these two are relaxing in.

Waddy's Wagon

Captain Walter "Waddy" Young and the crew of his B-29 re-enacted the caricature painting
on their plane in 1944.  Sadly, the entire crew was lost when their aircraft collided
with another B-29 which had been damaged by a Japanese suicide attack.
Capt. Young was a pro football player before the war.

Gratitude

These two Marines expressed their gratitude to the Coast Guard for the success
of the invasion of Guam.  The man at right looks like one tough customer.

Volleyball Team

Look, it's a volleyball team, and they're only half naked!

Martin and Newsome

Martin seems to be having a bit of a wardrobe malfunction

Six marines

These six Marines were stationed in Hawaii during World War II>

Three buddies

I wish I knew the story of these three buddies in front of a long line of tents.

Richard Winters

And last, but far from least, we have Richard Winters, one of the soldiers upon whose service the series Band of Brothers was based.  His Easy Company was trained at Camp Toccoa, Georgia where this photo was taken in 1942.  If you haven't seen Band of Brothers, you should.

Dave Martin Day

It's time for our quarterly all Dave Martin series, and we start with Mark Peterson and a sword.
My folks had that exact same end table in 1965.  They must have solds a lot of them.

Ford Reynolds

We get a straight ahead stare from Ford Reynolds.

Dick Jacobs

Dick Jacobs was an athlete at Arizona State when Dave Martin took this photo in 1953.

Unknown

This handsome, smiling man is the only unknown model in today's Dave Martin set.

Rick Sylvester

This is Rick Sylvester and his shadow.
He looks like he knows what we want.

Robert Baker

Robert Baker looks proud and confident.

Charlie Wall

Dave Martin put Charlie Wall on a bar stool for this one,
and for some reason I can't take my eyes off his sharp haircut.

Greg Bradford

I posted this photo of Greg Bradford several years ago with Dave Martin's note superimposed on it.  This time, I'm going with the clean version so we can see his entire body.

Bud

Mr. Martin had Bud Counts lean against a large rock for this color shot.

Doyle Brewer

We get a classic flex pose from Doyle Brewer beside a pond.

Bill Brannon

Ending the Dave Martin series with Bill Brannon in a beautifully simple pose.
