Early 20th Century

Going back to the early 20th Centuryn for today's series,
starting with a man scratching his head in the woods.

Military?

I think this slightly chubby fellow is being herded around some military installation.

German Exercise

After struggling through the Fraktur print at right, I'm pretty sure that this German is doing the stretching and warmup component of an early 20th C. exercise program.

Sand diggers

These men are moving sand around, and one of them decided to do it naked.

Steinwerfer

This is Steinwerfer, or Stone Thrower, by K. Kummer.

Tan Lines

Those have to be the oddest tan lines I've posted in a long, long time.

Trio

Time for another item from my small collection of photos of this handsome trio.

Laurence Woodford

This is Plate 17, Back Study, from Laurence Woodford's book, Physical Idealism and the Art
of Posing.  Mr. Woodford was an early 20th Century physical culturist and model, a few of whose
photos I had come across over the years.  Our resident life model, David, delighted
me by purchasing a copy of the book and sharing it with me and my viewers,
expanding my collection tenfold.  Thank you, David!

Shot or Rocks?

I can't tell if these Germans are getting ready to do the shot put or heave rocks.

2nd Wave Contribution

About a month ago, I posted a photo that appeared to have been from an art text.  Knowledgeable viewer 2nd Wave not only found the source, but sent me a nice group of additional images, including this one.  For those of you interested, the source was Studies of the Human Figure with some notes on Drawing and Anatomy, by George Montague Ellwood and Francis Francis Rowland.
Many thanks to 2nd Wave for sharing!

Magazine Week, Day 7 - Playguy

To close out magazine week, we will take a look at a publication that I've never featured before, Playguy.  A brazen knockoff of Playgirl, this one made no pretenses about not being for gays.
This issue is from April of 1980, but Playguy had already been around for several years.

Magazine Week, Day 6 - Zeus Presents Mark Wolf

When I posted individual photos of Mark Wolf in the past, several of you asked for more.
Among the donation of Bill D., I found this Zeus publication all about mark.
Although perhaps not technically a magazine, I think you'll enjoy it.
