I spend a lot more time looking for "new" material than I do putting series together, and today I'm posting a dozen 19th Century academic drawings that I found on a single visit to a single website. I don't get that lucky that often, and in this case, there are enough images for two more series. We start with one by Charles Laurent Germain from 1892.

1878
Here we see one of two drawing in today's set which have only a year for information.
There appears to be a signature, but I couldn't make it out.
Peder Severin Kroyer
Danish artist Peder Severin Kroyer drew this older model in 1877.
We'll see a work by his wife Marie later today.
Disappointed
I was rather disappointed that my source had no name for the artist on this one because
I'd really like to see more work by someone who can draw a man's backside that well.
Joseph Samaranch
The model in this 1896 work by Joseph Samaranch looks like he's ringing a church bell.
Disclosure: I removed severe yellowing from this one.
Puzzler
This one is a bit of a puzzler since it has grid marks often used by artists when they plan
to increase the size or scale of a preliminary work or a photo study. One doesn't usually
think of students doing that sort of thing, but perhaps is was part of the curriculum
at one of the academies. No artist, date, or school was listed. I love the hat.
Wallace Collection
This drawing is by an unknown artist, and it's part of the Wallace Collection,
one of the smaller (but quite good) London museums.

Bill Grant Day . . . the White Guy
There were two fine physique models named Bill Grant, the white guy I'm featuring today
and an African-American who won Mr. Universe in 1972. The Black gentleman will get his
own day in a few weeks. We start with a fine G-rated picture that I think may be by AMG.
Trampoline
Bob Mizer of AMG took this color photo of Bill Grant on a trampoline.
We will see a different photo in that location later today.
AMG Trampoline
Here's another view on the AMG poolside trampoline that shows off Bill Grant's beatiful backside.
I have to wonder about the safety implications if it was used as a diving board.
Having Fun
The final photo in our Bill Grant set shows how cute men can be when having fun.
This is another AMG shot taken at Bob Mizer's pool.

Newly Acquired for New Years Day
To celebrate New Years Day I'm posting 15 newly acquired images in chronological order of their creation . . . at least according to my sources and research. We start with a heroic nude bronze statue of Roman Emperor Septimius Severus. It was likely made during his reign around 200 AD, but it was discovered by chance in 1928 in a garden on the island of Cyprus.
Severin Falkman
This mid-19th Century painting by Severin Falkman is dedicated
to my generous photo contributor and fellow beard fancier Brian E.
Sandow 1895
This is hands down my favorite recent acquisition. Eugen Sandow looks like he is looking straight into my eyes and engaged with me. He appears incredibly strong and vulnerable at the same time.
The image was made in 1893 by the great photographer Sarony.
Keith Stephan
A lot of Bruce of LA photos have been turning up lately at online auctions and sales.
This one of Keith Stephan from 1950 is a recent favorite acquisition.
Homosexual
This "homosexual with virile bodily development" appeared on a website that described it as mid-20th Century. I suppose some publisher may have gotten away with it in a medical text, but I don't know where in the English speaking world this could have been safely published before 1967.
No info
I have no information on this one at all, but I'm estimating the date as early to mid-1970s based on the hair style and mustache. But I could be wrong. I've been wrong lots of times.
Kenn Duncan
One of my best recent finds was a group of Kenn Duncan photos from the mid-1970s.
I chose this one more or less at random to post today.
Roger
This is Roger, a porn star whose career ran from 1977 to 1981 from what I could glean.
There were several others of that era who also went by a single name.
East German Textbook, 1982
These three photos are from page 177 of East German Professor Gottfried Bamme's 1982 textbook in anatomy for artists. The East Germans were surprisingly easy going when it came to nudity in art or naturist clubs, but they would shoot to kill if you tried to leave the country.
