Douglas of Detroit, Part 1 - Nudes

We have a two part series today featuring the work of Doug Juleff, aka Douglas of Detroit.
Part one is a selection of nudes, starting with Mike Dubel and a bamboo screen.

Dick Buckholz

Doug Juleff didn't take all that many derriere photos, but when he did,
they were very good.  This one is Dick Buckholz.

Vic Seipke and Jim Park

These two men with fan palm fronds are Vic Seipke and Jim Park
You'll see Mr. Seipke in trunks later today.

Al Walch

That's probably the same bamboo screen that Mike Dubel posed in front of.
This time the model was Al Walch.

Stan Stanczyk

Pulling a chain between his hands made a good pose for Stan Stanczyk.

Douglas of Detroit - Intermission

Lest we forget the price Doug Juleff paid for his art, here's this item from the March 18, 1955 edition of the Detroit Free Press.  I have no information on how the psychiatric exam went, but he ended up doing six months in jail.  That was about average for such "offenses" in those days, but the worst part was the destruction of much of his work and the ending of his career.  Oh, and just to add insult to injury, his own father cooperated with the police during the raid.  Don't think for a minute that there aren't people working right now to take us back to those dark days.

Douglas of Detroit, Part 2 - Men in Trunks

Part two of our Douglas of Detroit set features men in trunks, an aspect of Doug Juleff's work that doesn't get a lot of attention.  We begin with Sam Adams in a geometric pose.

Wladek "Tarzan" Kowalski

Windsor, Ontario was home for Wladek Kowalski, a professional wrestler who started his career
as Tarzan Kowalski, but switched after a few years to the alliterative Killer Kowalski.
Apparently he hopped across the Detroit River to be photographed by Doug Juleff.

Vic Seipke

Color photos by Doug Juleff are rather rare, so I was quite happy
to find this one of Vic Seipke taken on the shores of Lake Michigan.

Don van Fleteren

We get the straight forward look from Don van Fleteren.

Unknown

Ending the series with an unknown model pulling a rope.

Odds and Ends

This summary is not available. Please click here to view the post.

Standing tall

This guy seems to be standing under one of those poolside heavy overhead lattices

Hay

Not that I'm complaining about the quality of the man, mind you, but having hefted thousands
of hay bales in my youth, I can tell you that you never want to do this shirtless or in shorts.

Pleasant

Here we have a pleasant looking, if somewhat tentative, men.

Arch

I think these guys are trying to squeeze through an arched doorway.

Don't know

I don't know why, but for some reason I find this fellow quite attractive.

Clone

Here's our 70s clone of the day.  The helmet hair is prominent, and I'm sure
the gym shorts and crew socks are tucked away just out of sight.

Hood ornament

Here's another hood ornament for you Packard fans.

Older guy

Here we have a late middle aged man who seems to be tearing
off his business shirt.  Love the polka dot necktie.

Rufus

If this guy isn't named Rufus, he should be.

Bang

I couldn't decide if this should have been a beach or desert themed photo,
and I have to wonder if that's a suggestion or a directional sign.

Skinny Dippers Day

It's skinny dipppers day, and let's start with an all male nude 1970s pool party.

Floating bath house?

I think this was shot at a 1900-ish floating bath house.
Stockholm had a well known one.

Near a dam

There appears to be a dam in the background of this group of swimmers.

One guy

There's always that one guy.  This time he's the one who kept his shorts on.

More Swedes?

I have a hunch that these two fellows might be Swedes.
Some of the islets in the Stockholm Archipelago look like that.

Heading for the water

Several nice derrieres in this group heading for the water.

YMCA?

This might have been taken at a YMCA.  I've seen other photos
of nude men on the same diving platform.

Fun group

I'm sure that these were a fun group of guys to hang out with.
Mr. Second-from-left is giving me the vapors.

Old favorite

This is a repeat of one of my all-time favorite skinny dipping pictures.

Lost in the crowd

We finish with a photo in which the point(s) of interest are almost lost in the crowd.
