Lon of New York Day

We are way overdue for an all Lon of New York series,
so let's start with Felix Gedraitis and a column.

Jerry Albanese

Although better known for his work with Danny Fitzgerald of Les Demi Dieux,
Jerry Albanese also worked with Lon Hanagan.

Lionel Ravaute

This handsome and well endowed fellow is Lionel Ravaute,
winner of the Junior Mr. France title in 1957.

Fred Bortnik

This is Fred Bortnik.

Jerry Rocco

I was fortunate to recently come across this Lon photo of Jerry Rocco
which I believe was made early in his modeling career.

John Kemper and Nick Digiuseppi

A leaded glass window makes a nice backdrop for John Kemper and Nick Digiuseppi.

Fred Boysiewick

The step-up block provides an interesting element
in this shot of Fred Boysiewick.

LeRoy Colbert

Lon of New York, aka Alonzo Hanagan, was one of the first noteworthy physique photographers to prominently feature men of color, both African-American and Hispanic.  Leroy Colbert
is a good example of the high quality models Lon was able to recruit and photograph.

Taylor Flaniken

I only have a few photos of Taylor Flaniken, and this is the only solo.  Wish I had more.

Sal Severino

Outdoor photos by Lon are not very common,
and this is Sal Severino on a stone breakwater.

Jack Mitchell Day

It's time for another series on the work of Jack Mitchell, and we start
with choreographer and Martha Graham dancer Tim Wengerd.

Don Lopez I

This is the first of two photos of Don Lopez in today's set.

Nick Caturano

Nick Caturano posed with a luger in 1972.

Milton Dean

Milton Dean posed for Jack Mitchell in a series of photos with botanical overlays in 1974.

Leland Schwantes

This is Leland Schwantes.  You might remember him as one
of the principal dancers in the movie All That Jazz.

Erik Emerson

This rather odd picture of Erik Emerson is from 1971.

Doug Benz

Doug Benz posed for Jack Mitchel in 1979.

Jan Stephen

This photo of Jan Stephen is from 1967,
one of the earliest dates in my Jack Mitchell collection.

David Del Tredici

It was 1974 when Jack Mitchell photographed American composer David Del Tredici.

Don Lopez

This Jack Mitchell photo of Don Lopez appeared in After Dark in 1985.

Von Gloeden Day

It's Von Gloeden day, and we start with a handsome model on a terrace.

G-string Flex

I don't know why Von Gloeden bothered with the g-string on this flexing model.

Boxers

The boxing motif shows up several times in Von Gloeden's work,
and this is one of my favorites.

Hazy

Whether the hazy effect here was intentional or just later fading,
it gives an ethereal feeling to the photo.

Serious

This summary is not available. Please click here to view the post.

Look away

I was tempted to remove the yellowing from this one, but didn't.

Basking

These two give the impression of basking in the sun with their eyes closed.

Sexy

Despite the lack of overt nudity, I find this photo incredibly sexy.

Photoshopped?

This one sent my photoshopped alarm off.  Any opinions?

David Vibe

Our final Von Gloeden photo gives me a "David" vibe.
