Bill Melby Day

Today is Bill Melby day, and we will see five photos by Don Whitman of Western Photography Guild, four by Bruce of Los Angeles, and one by an unknown.  We start with the only indoor shot
of the day, and it is, perhaps surprisingly. by Mr. Whitman of WPG.

Bruce I

Our first photo of the day by Bruce of LA shows off Bill Melby's derriere on a beach.

WPG II

The pose for this Don Whitman photo of Bill Melby looks like it was adapted from his wrestling career.  That would make sense because Mr. Melby had stopped removing his chest hair
when he transitioned from competitive bodybuilding to professional wrestling.

Bruce II

This woodland shot by Bruce of LA is one that I only recently acquired.

WPG III

Our only color image of the day is a classic Western Photography Guild location and pose.

Locker Room

This photo is said to have been made in the locker room
of a wrestling venue where Bill Melby performed.

Bruce III

Initially, I had not photographer attribution for this beach photo of Mr. Melby,
but I subesqently saw some convincing signs that it is by Bruce of LA.

WPG IV

Don Whitman used what I call the "playing the castanets" pose for this one.

Bruce IV

I posted this Bruce of LA photo of Bill Melby over five years ago,
but I'm pretty sure you viewers won't mind a repeat.

WPG V

Closing the Bill Melby series with another amazing photo
by Don Whitman of Western Photography Guild.

Polaroids, Part 1 - Color

Doing a two part Polaroid set today, beginning with color shots.  Our first picture is probably
the most recent since both the color and resolution are better than the others.

Faded

Here's one where the color didn't hold up well over time,
assuming that it was ever all that good.

Horizontal Reader

This guy has gone horizontal to read his Playboy.

Tighty Whities

Here's one for you underwear fanciers.

Haircut

I hope he didn't pay a lot for that haircut.

Polaroids, Part 2 - Black and White

We start the black and white segment of today's series with a typical shot
of a young man looking at what is probably a cheesy magazine.

Flaws

This Polaroid shows some typical flaws in the finishing process,
but that's probably not what got most of you guys' attention.

Flex

We get a flex from this model who looks hairy from the waist down.

Wee Drinkie

This lad seems to be having a wee drinkie to loosen up.

Bored

Is it just me, or does our last black and white Polaroid model look bored?

Unknown Danish Academic Art

When researching Danish art following my visit to Copenhagen last year, I came across a website that featured about 20 Danish academic works by unknown artists.  The academy archive from which they came preserved the drawings and paintings, but had no record of the artists' names.  Today I am posting ten of these, starting with a young man waving and holding a short staff.

No fig, but still leaves

Although I could do without the branch and leaves,
the form of this male is impressive.

Shapely backside

Whoever drew this one knew how to draw a shapely backside.

Interesting pose

The pose here is hard to figure out, but the work is very good.

Staff of spear

I can't tell if the prop here is supposed to be a staff or a spear.

Surprising

Two thing surprise me about this painting.  First, there's the fact the artist capable
of such work is not known.  And second, it's pretty damn good for a student piece.

Double support

A staff and one of those big wooden blocks give this model double support.

Ordinary

The model here looks like an ordinary average guy walking alonw with a short staff.

Big Beard

We can't see it very well, but this model appears to have a big bushy beard.
That's not the only big element of the painting.

Searching?

I can't tell if the closing drawing shows a man searching
for something or just rubbing the top of his head.
