Bib Overalls Day, Part 1 - Workers

As some of you already know, I have a thing for men in bib overalls, especially if they omit the shirt.  Today's set will be a two parter with intermission.  Part one consists of working men, 

and I believe this gentleman was a Midwester farmer from the postwar era.

 

Farmers, mechanics, or farriers

I can't decide if these two are farmers, mechanics, or farriers.

 

Color

I'm fairly sure this is vintage, but unsure if the color is original or added later.

 

Fun pair

These two look like they knew how to have fun,

and I would love to have known them.

 

1942 Chevy

This gentleman is sitting on the bumper of his 1942 Chevy pickup.  But then it could have been a '46 because Chevrolet did not have time after World War II ended to design a new truck and retool their factories.  Nearly all 1946 models were warmed over '42s and sold like crazy anyway.

 

Bib Overalls Day, Intermission - Two Moderns

While researching this series I came across some nice modern photos, so I decied to post two

 of them as an intermission.  This guy could work on my construction site any day.

 

Almost faked me out again

Someone on another blog posted a version of this one that had been converted 

to black and white as well as made a bit fuzzy to make it look vintage. 

 For once, I was suspicious and did some checking to find that

it has a professional model and is less than 10 years old. 

 

Bib Overall Day, Part 2 - Rock Stars

Part two of today's series shows some late 60s and 1970s rock stars in bib overalls, something that became a sort of fashion trend at one point.  We start with Robert Lamm of Chicago.

 

Frank Zappa

Frank Zappa went out of his way to stand the music world on it's head,

and he succeeded to a large extent.  A favorite bit from Dirty Love:

Bob "The Bear" Hite

This is Bob "The Bear" Hite, front man for Canned Heat.

Below, we see him shirtless and sweaty.  You're welcome, Leroy.

The Bear tragically died of an overdose in 1981 after a fan in LA gave him a vial of almost pure heroin.  When he went unconcious, his idiot bandmates first tried to revive him with cocaine 

and then drove him to a private home rather than calling the paramedics.

 

Denny Dias

Steely Dan's Denny Dias is shown here with bandmate Jeff "Skunk" Baxter.

 

Dennis Wilson

Our final bib overall photo has Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys at a studio mixing board.

 

The other photographer named Roy, Roy Blakey

At the same time Roy Dean was making his successful coffee table books, Roy Blakey was also producing some really fine male nudes.  Today we look at ten of Mr. Blakey's photos,

starting with this somewhat pensive looking young man.

 

Darryl Robinson I

My source says this is "Darryl Robinson and Unknown," but I think it's 

Mr. Robinson alone in a very interesting double/multiple exposure or overlay.

 

Tim Scott

I find myself fascinated by this photo of Tim Scott.  We get an unconventional pose, 

an interior horizon line, and some excellent lighting.  Lots to like here.

 

George Payne

Mandate magazine feature Roy Blakey photos on a number of occasions.

This time the model was George Payne.

I would love to know who this model is so I could find more pictures of him.

Random Beef Day

It's time for another set of those odds and ends, leftovers, and uncategorized photos I call random beef.  We start with a model whose attributes come through despite the garish lighting.

I was tempted to tone down the exposure, but didn't

The man on the left seems to be sizing up the one on the right.

 

Sprawl

 

I think the photographer was going for maximum sprawl here.

Too bad they cropped out part of his left leg.

Colt?

If this guy wasn't a Colt model, he should have been.

 

Trio

Although Google Images search came up blank, the setting here reminds me 

of one used by Rod Crowther.  Anybody know for sure?

 

Mystery

I don't know what this guy is doing, but the picture looks like an outtake from one of Don Whitman's (Western Photography Guild) outdoor sessions.  It probably isn't, though.

 

Attitude

This guy isn't beefy, but I like the attitude.

 

Modern?

This one might be modern, but the prominent bush could indicate otherwise.
