Golden Gate Bridge Day, Part 1 - Dave Martin's Nudes

We'll be looking at quite a few photos made at the Golden Gate Bridge today, and it will
be a marathon three parter.  Part one starts us with the work of Dave Martin, the classic
era physique photographer most associated with the iconic location.

Paul Dixon I

Although he is often erroneously described as a college swimmer, Paul Dixon was a sheet metal
worker who enjoyed diving, water polo, and competitive swimming.  There's another photo
with an expanded note from Dave Martin that goes into more detail than this one.

Roy Lang I

This handsome fellow is Roy Lang, a former minor league baseball player
who was about 38 years of age when this photo was taken.

Unknown

I really like this photo of an unknown model.
Anyone know his name?

Paul Dixon II

Dave Martin cleverly posed Paul Dixon here on a broken
concrete wall that looks like the bow of a ship.

Roy Lang II

The boulders, the man, the sand, and the bridge combine
for near perfection in our second Roy Lang photo.
And then there's that knowing smile.

Dick Woodward

I can't imagine Dave Martin taking a model as good as Dick Martin to the Golden Gate Bridge
and only taking one photo with the structure in it.  That seems to be the case,
however, as I have looked and looked for more with no success.

Paul Dixon III

Paul Dixon looks every bit as well built as the bridge
in his third appearance in this set.

Roy Lang III

We get just a snippet view of the bridge in the third Roy Lang
photo of the set and the last image of Part One.

Golden Gate Day, Part 2 - Three G-Rated Pictures

Part 2 is short, but I had to include my three favorite G-rated Golden Gate photos.  We start with this handsome fellow whose photographer is unknown, at least everywhere I've been able to look.
If I had to guess, I'd say Dave Martin despite the fact the he did relatively few non-nudes.

Crawford Barton

This late 1970s stunner is by Crawford Barton.

Our third and final G-rated image is Ray Routeledge by Dave Martin.

Golden Gate Day, Part 3 - More Nudes

Part three of today's series is another round of nudes, including three of Bob Delmonteque.
There are mixed opinions as to whether those three are by Dave Martin or by Mr. Delmonteque
himself, as he was a competent photographer who could have easily used a timer.  On the
other hand, the locale and style make us instantly think of Mr. Martin.

Denny Denfield I

I can't believe that Denny Denfield, being based in San Francisco, only took two photos
at the Golden Gate Bridge.  That is all, however, that I have been able
to find over the years.  This one is of Ed Siemens.

Bob Delmonteque II

All I can say about this one is "Classic!"

Denny Denfield II

When I first ran this Denny Denfield photo almost seven years ago,
no one knew the model's name.  Anybody know now?

Bob Delmonteque III

Our third photo of Bob Delmonteque shows him with a big smile.

Modern Item

Closing out Golden Gate Day with a modern item
that many of us will find appealing.

Celebrity Day, Part 1 - Nudes

Today we have a two part celebrity set, with part one being nudes.  We begin
with a shot of Burt Lancaster that I somehow managed not to post until now.

Arnim Meier

Arnim Meier is shown above in a scene from 1978's Germany in Autumn.  Better known for his other films which were directed by his love Rainer Werner Fassbinder, he killed himself
in Fassbinder's apartmen after the couple broke up in 1978.  What a waste!

Richard Harris

Richard Harris starred in This Sporting Life in 1963.  He is somewhere in the above scrum in an oversized bathtub, but I don't know which one he was.  We see him with another actor below.

Charlton Heston

Here we have Charlton Heston from one of the Planet of the Apes movies.

Alan Ginsberg

This is Alan Ginsberg in Japan in the early to mid 1960s.

Celebrity Day, Part 2 - Hairy Boxers

Part two of our celebrity series features hirsute boxers, starting with Jim Jeffries.  He famously was called "The Great White Hope" when he fought (and lost to) Jack Johnson in 1910.
Below we see him as World Champion, 1899-1905.

Bobo Olson

Honolulu born Carl "Bobo" Olson was sometimes called the Hawaiian Swede due
to his mixed ethnic background.  Better known for his stamina than his skill,
he had a fairly successful career as a middleweight.

Paul Sykes

Sometimes celebrities are infamous rather than famous.  This is Paul Sykes, an English boxer
whose success at boxing and weightlifting was overshadowed by his criminal history.  Never
able to handle alcohol or stay away from it, he engaged in a string of violent crimes that
kept him imprisoned for 21 years.  While in prison, he routinely assaulted guards and other
personnel.  He fathered six children, two of whom are currently serving life sentences
for murder, just about the only violent crime Paul Sykes was never convicted of.
He was a regular attendee at the Baptist Church in Wakefield, but it didn't seem
to help much.  He died of pneumonia aggravated by cirrhosis of the liver at age 60.
Charles Bronson called him the toughest guy in Britain.

Ingemar Johansson

Here we see Swedish great Ingemar Johansson emerging from a pool.

Scott LeDoux

Closing part two with a 1983 shot of Scott LeDoux being weighed in for a match with Frank Bruno which turned out to be the last of his career.  Gotta love the colored BVDs.

New Blog Back Online

After some initial difficulties, the new vintage blog bushnstache is back online.

Poolside Nudist Day

Our theme today is poolside nudists, and we start with a guy
who may be trying to pull someone into the water.

Nonplussed

This guy seems a bit nonplussed.  Perhaps he wasn't expecting to have his picture taken.
If so, it would be unusual since nudist gatherings had strict permission rules.

Oversaturated

The color in this one is oversaturated, but I like it anyway.

Emerging

I've always particularly enjoyed these shots of nude men emerging from pools.

Derriere

Our only derriere shot of the day.  Sorry, Albert.

Lounging

Here we have a tattooed guy lounging poolside.

Backyard pool?

I think this may have been taken at a backyard pool.

Background

The background is interesting on this one.

Diving board

I think our last poolside nudist is sitting on a towel atop a diving board.
