The Roaring Twenties

All our photos today are from the 1920s, and we start
with a young man pulling on something.

Reaching

This gaggle of men from 1929 appears to be reaching for something.  Maybe someone tossed a ball into the air.  Like the previous photo, I have a feeling it's FKK, but I have no proof.

Laure Albin-Guillot

The soft focus is intentional in this 1927 work by Laure Albin-Guillot.

George Hoyningen-Huene

I find the composition and posing of this 1929 photo by George Hoyningen-Huene to be quite good
and bit ahead of its time.  An original print sold at over four times the reserve auction price.

1928

All the info that came with this one was a year, 1928.  It reminds me
of George Platt Lynes' work, but I know it isn't his.

Roi Partridge and John Butler

Imogen Cunningham took this 1925 photo of her husband Roi Partridge and John Butler, both artists.  Despite what many have described as "chemistry" between the two men, there has never been any evidence that they were lovers.  Both of the men's memoires, leters, and personal papers describe a close working relationship and friendship, but not even a hint of a sexual component.  Oh,well.

"Nudity, Bodyculture, and Education."

These three naked Germans appeared in Adolf Koch's 1929 book, the title of which translates as "Nudity, Bodyculture, and Education."  The models and photographer are unknown.

Oiled

This is a relatively rare 1920s male nude by a female photographer, Edith Boeck.
It predates the use of oil in physique photography, making it even more unusual.

Der Eigene

This 1921 photo by Adolf Brand appeared in Der Eigene, a publication
widely considered to be the first gay magazine.

Post Card

Our last 1920s item is a 1920 French post card.

Ten Big Ones by Ten Big Ones

It's been well over five years since I did an entire set on "big ones," so here it is.  This time
around I'm featuring ten models with big ones by ten different big name photographers.
We start the show with Lionel Ravaute by Alonzo Hanagan, aka Lon of New York.

Douglas of Detroit

Doug Juleff, aka Douglas of Detroit, oiled just about everything
on Pete Jacobs except the subject of today's series.

Dave Martin

Dave Scott posed for Dave Martin in this one.

Kris Studio

Here we see Jerry Thomas by Chuck Renslow of Kris Studio.

Pat Milo

I'd love to know what produced the smirk on Don Hawksley's face in this Pat Milo picture.

Champion

Joe Canoli posed in a fake locker room with football gear in a memorable photo shoot
by Champion Studio.  Look up "canoli" in an Italian slang dictionary for a grin.

Dave Jackson

Canadian photographer Frank Borck of Can-Art photographed Dave Jackson,
aka Mike Jackson, in ripped cutoffs with a belt around his neck.

AMG

Bob Mizer of AMG took this interesting photo of Bob Enslow.

Bruce of LA

Bo Lindstrom posed with a old fashioned lawn mower for this Bruce of LA picture.

Troy Saxon

My source says that this Troy Saxon model is David Gale.  And so ends our big ones series.
Enjoy it, because it may be five more years before I do this again.

Raymaond "Czanara" Carrance Day

It's been over a year since I post any work by Raymond Carrance, aka Czanara.
We start with the first of two photos of a model on what looks like a fur bed cover.

Shore

I think this model appears later today in the water, but I'm not sure.

Art I

Raymond Carrance did this drawing in Rome in 1953.

Archer

The second young man in the background adds an interesting element to this archery shot.

Fur?

Is that a fur throw the model is reclining upon?

Clear Stream 1960

The water, the rocks, and the model combine to make an interesting image in this 1960 work.

Art II

The second Czanara art piece in today's series shows
a higher level of sophistication than the first, imho.

Poor cropping

Although I'm not too impressed by the cropping,
I find the photograph to be quite attractive.

Sculpted

There are two sculpted items here, the little statue and the model.
I greatly prefer the model.

No sand beach

Our final Czanara model posed on a beach made of miniature flagstones.
