Bear Day

It's Bear Day, and let's start with a beach wader.

Beefy

Now that's a beefy bottom!

John Deere?

Is that a late 70s John Deere cap he's wearing?  My uncle gave me one of those,
but I never told him I wore it to the gay bars in New Orleans.

Hippie Bear

I knew several hippie bears back in the day.

Fishing Bear

I posted another view of this bearish Australian fisherman a few years ago.

Poolside

Here we have a happy Australian poolside bear.

More?

This guy apparently did just one photo shoot, and I have
three or four pictures from it.  Anyone have more?

Beard and Bulge

This would make a good underwear ad, "For bears who need support."

1960s

This one is supposed to be from a 1960s nudist magazine, but there's a little imprint near
the bottom that says Redbeard.  I should know, but did they do stuff like that back then?

Bubba

Closing with a fellow they had to call Bubba.

More Models Named Bill

It's another round of models named Bill today, and we start with Bill Elliott by Dave Martin.

Bill Barad

Bill Barad was a Florida bodybuilder most active from 1944 to 1954.  He made the cover of Muscle Power in August of 1949, but I have not been able for find the photographer's name.

Bill Kugler

The tan lines are quite visible in this Russ Warner photo of Bill Kugler.

Bill Broomes

Bruce of LA posed Bill Broomes against a rock face for this one.

Bill Lamm

This photo of Bill Lamm is from one of Bruce of LA's desert photo shoots.

Bill Wilder

This summary is not available. Please click here to view the post.

Bill Pask

This is Bill Pask as photographed by Lon of New York, aka Alonzo Hanagan.

Bill Derrick

I couldn't do another series on men named Bill without the amazing Bill Derrick.  He was a college educated engineer with a very successful career who also extensively read poetry and maintained an impressive physique even in his later years.  Having already posted every photo I have of this fine model, I chose to repeat a personal favorite today by the great Dave Martin.

Bill Ferguson

Chuck Renslow of Kris Studio took this photo of Bill Ferguson
which was published in Rawhide magazine.

Bill Franchi

R.I.P. Duane Michals

Several weeks ago, we lost two giants of both the art and gay worlds.  David Hockney's demise
was all over my news feed, but I had to learn from several of my viewers that groundbreaking photographer Duane Michaels had died a couple of days earlier.  (Mr. Hockney makes an
appearance here today, btw.)  I am ignoring my 1985 cutoff year for the blog this once
because I wanted to give a fuller sampling of the remarkable artist's work.  With one
possible exception (unknown date) I am presenting the images in chronological order.
We start with a self portrait Mr. Michaels called Upside Down Portrait.

1966

Here we see The Violent Act from 1966, and I have to say
that it was quite edgy for the time.

1968

This is The Spirit Leaves the Body from 1968,

Back Talk

This set is from 1970 and titled Back Talk.

Anatomy Lesson

I don't have a date for Anatomy Lesson, a personal favorite
I posted in my first Duane Michals series several years ago.

David Hockney

This is David Hockney with Friend from 1975

1978

These two images from 1978 are meant to be seen together.

Man Carrying a Chair

Here we see Man Carrying a Chair from 1982.

1990

Other than the obvious curly blond with a big book,
all I know about this one is the year, 1990.

John at 19

This is John at 19 from 2002.

2018

Still active well into his 80s, Mr. Michals did this as part of a fashion spread in 2018.
Note yet another curly blond with an antique typewriter, pink sandals, and some roses.

Goodbye

Finishing up with a photo of Duane Michals in which he seems to be waving goodbye.
Like David Hockney, Mr. Michals had a style all his own.
