Lesser Known Physique Photographers

Today we will look at some lesser known physique photographers.  As you will see, being lesser
known does not necessarily mean being of lesser quality.  We start with Davis Danby
as photographed by Frank Bork, a fine Canadian photographer who did business as Can-Art.
Mr. Borck eventually became almost an iconic figure in the Canadian gay culture scene.

Art Modern

This is Ray Anderson, a model who posed for Art Modern.
He has nice shoulders, even at that angle.

Roman Studio

Just when I thought I'd found all the different photographers who used Joe Dallesandro as a model, another one popped up.  This rocky image is supposed to be by Roman Studio.
Like everyone else, I'm sure they had to pay and pay.

Luc Geslin

Luc Geslin took this color photo of Francesco Mello Xavier.

John Hernec

Phil Campisi posed in the reclining position for Johnb Hernec.

Al McDuffie

Titan, Acme, and Cal Models were all trade names used by photographer Al McDuffie.
This photo of Juan Franco was done under the Titan brand.

Antonio Arabia

What little I've managed to scrape together of Antonio Arabia's
work is all excellent.  The model here is unknown.

Avery Willard

This is Ralph Bernard by Avery Willard.  Despite the distracting background,
Mr. Bernard's fine physique shines through.

Scott Collection

Bob over at Bob's Naked Guys posted this five years ago, listing it
as an unpublished amateur photo from the Scott Collection.

Your Model Service

Art Ullrich posed for a number of well known photographers,
but this one is by the obscure Your Model Service.

James B. Hills

This broad shouldered young man is Gary Bordman as photographed by James B. Hills.

Arnt

Our last image from a lesser known photographer is by John Arnt of Seattle.  In this case the reason that the artist is little known is that there is so very little of his outstanding work extant.
I have only a few over 20 photos in my entire Arnt collection.

1950 Was a Good Year

Today is all about the year 1950, and we start with a George Platt Lynes photo
of Jared French above and an unnamed study Mr. French did the same year below.

Wynn Chamberlain

Wynn Chamberlain made this figure drawing in 1950.
From the Leslie-Lohman Museum collection.

Phillies

Philadephia baseball players Granville "Granny" Hamner and Mike Goliat
relax in their hotel room in this 1950 photo from LIFE.

Jens Juncker-Jensen

Danish photographer Jens Juncker-Jensen took this in 1950.

Scout

This scout is from a 1950 FKK magazine.

Memorial

Richard Scheibe sculpted this in 1950 as part of a memorial to Friedrich Ebert,
president of the Weimar Republic.  Herr Ebert did not look like the statue at all.

Vigour

This is the cover of British magazine Vigour from October of 1950.
I believe the cover man is Bob Smith.

Bob Morris

Russ Warner took this photo of Bob Morris in 1950.

Yannis Tsarouchis

This is Greek Military Policeman from 1950 by Yannis Tsarouchis.

Unknown

This unknown (to me anyway) American physique model posed in 1950.

Danes

Tennessee Williams

PaJaMa took this photo of Tennessee Williams in 1950.

Donald Stuart Friend

Australian artist Donald Stuart Friend completed this painting in 1950.

Naples

Swimmers Day

Today we will look at some men out for a swim, starting with a 1911 bicycle club
that took a break from cycling to go skinny dipping around a log jam.

Floating Bath House

A floating bath house in Stockholm was the setting for this picture.
It was actually for swimming rather than taking a bath.

Austrians

These three were part of the 1920 Austrian water polo team.

Italians

All my source said about these guy was that they were Italian.

Demure

This group of men on a swimming outing are demurely posed,
but I find them to be quite attractive anyway.

This is supposed to be from Keith Vaughan's private album
of photos made at the Highgate Men's Pond.

Team

I have no information on this one, but it looks like a water polo team.
They seem too heavy and hairy for speed swimmers.

Mud fun

I'm thinking these guys have to be Germans.  Interwar Germans
had a thing about playing naked in the mud.

Some bare, some not

Here we have a pool scene where some of the men are wearing suits, and some are not.

Falling Water

I saved my favorite of the day for last.  Although it is probably just a snapshot,
I find the photography and the waterfall setting to be excellent.
